Damien Lovegrove is one of the most famous European portrait photographers and a source of inspiration to amateur and professional photographers alike. He turned digital in 2001 and has never shot a roll of film since. It’s his best work from those first ten years of digital shooting – which Damien refers to himself as his ‘Golden Years’ – that are featured in these events. At the time Damien was running a very successful wedding and portrait photography business. His hobby was photography too and he soon developed his passion for photographing people his way into a sideline to that wedding business.
Damien is also a highly regarded workshop leader and an inspirational speaker. After two highly successful live events in Belgium, I’m super excited to host Damien again on May 19 and May 21 for…
… Lovegrove Portraits Deconstructed: a two-part online lecture that you can follow from the comfort of your home
Part 1: Black & White Portraits Deconstructed: Tuesday, May 19, 20.00 CEST. This is only a handful of images from around 40 that Damien will ‘deconstruct’ for you.
Part 2: Colour Portraits Deconstructed: Thursday, May 21, 20.00 CEST. This is only a handful of images from around 40 that Damien will ‘deconstruct’ for you.
In each of these two live online sessions, Damien carefully deconstructs a number of his best portraits from his ‘Golden Years’. He’ll explain his reasoning behind a particular pose, why he used a specific light, or where he drew his inspiration for a particular framing. As Damien’s black & white work is very different from his colour portfolio, we’ve decided to dedicate one session to each genre. On Tuesday, May 19, Damien will walk you through some of his best black & white work while on Thursday, May 21, he will discuss a number of his favourite colour images. Damien will be talking live, so you’ll get a chance to ask questions.
We’ve deliberately kept the price of this two-part online lecture very affordable. Plus, there’s an early bird discount: book your spot before May 15 for only €30 instead of €50. That’s for both sessions! No discount code needed.
Includes a downloadable copy of both events
We encourage you to watch the live event but in case you can’t make it to one (or even both) sessions, we’ve got your back: both talks will be recorded and on top of access to the live talk, every participant will also receive a downloadable copy of the recordings.
>> Your one-time booking fee gives access to both sessions AND a downloadable recording <<
“Thanks for an incredible evening with Damien Lovegrove. Super interesting!”
What will you learn from ‘Lovegrove Portraits Deconstructed’?
Lovegrove Portraits Deconstructed will be less about gear and f-stops, but all the more about offering you ideas and inspiration on how to create portraits that stand the test of time, regardless of camera brand or megapixel count. In these two highly entertaining and informative sessions, Damien will discuss each photograph in turn: the way it was lit, the composition, narrative and the often crazy stories behind the pictures. “‘With a portrait photography business you have to photograph your clients in the way that they want to be photographed. You don’t get to choose your model, lighting, location or styling. I wanted to develop my creativity without those constraints and have photographs that I can publish at the end of the day. That’s why I started running workshops. The freedom to chose everything and the pressure to deliver results is a perfect combination.’”
Session 1: Lovegrove Black & White Portraits Deconstructed: Tuesday, May 19, 20.00 CEST
Photography began with black & white, so we felt it was only logical to make the first session all about Damien’s interpretation of that classic style. Below is a selection of some of the images Damien’s going to deconstruct during the first session on May 19. As you can see, there’s a good variety of styles and subjects, couples and individuals, men and women. So regardless of what you normally shoot, you’re bound to be inspired with new ideas and techniques.
Session 2: Lovegrove Colour Portraits Deconstructed: Thursday, May 21, 20.00 CEST
The second session will be all about colour. Bold or subdued. Striking or minimalist. Here are but a couple of the images that Damien is going to photographically dismantle in this second session on May 21.
Early bird offer expires on May 15, 2020, 23.59 CEST
